Recently, some friends and I were
discussing our personal take on the concept of "what
means being a lesbian." Needless to say, the
concepts shared were fascinating, but what I found even
more of interest was the underlying thoughts of
identity. Some women responded with their feelings of
why they identify as a lesbian. Others responded with a
more global approach on living as a lesbian. The
different approaches signal to me that identity truly
has more meaning to each individual than any of us
realized. Before you read on, ask yourself ... is your
idea of lesbian identity about yourself or about your
relationships?
For me, being a lesbian is about defining our life and
the spirit within that motivates and guides us. It is
not just how my relation or sexual orientation defined
me, it is a way of life as well. How is that!?
Lesbian identity is all about
creating a life-bond with a woman, which in turn creates
love, pride and strength within every aspect of our
lives - not just what we share in the bedroom. It is in
many ways better than straight couple relationship
because it's base is on trust, love and understanding
between two women.
Think
just how narrow minded would it be to give judgments of
people just on behalf of their sex orientations, or
partners. Would it mean, just as an example, that if my
partner is short black haired cutie I am a sharp,
ambitious, with no remorse type of person!?
We all know there is much more to any person than just
sex orientation but we can't be aware of the influence
any type of relationship have on us. However this doesn't
mean that me being a lesbian is more into male stuff or
gay men are more feminize. These are all stereotypes we
all try to run away from.
I guess what I want to say here is that I really would
like to hear from you regarding any matter that may
influence lesbians in general. It my be a story about
your confessions to friends and families, it may be a
story about true love or it may be a view on everyday
lesbian sex life. As long as you feel you know your
alive so share that feeling with us. Thanks!
